Why Brisbane

What makes the Brisbane SDR market different.

Brisbane's SaaS scene is smaller than Sydney or Melbourne but punches above its weight. TechnologyOne is one of Australia's biggest enterprise SaaS companies and is headquartered here; Go1 is a Brisbane-founded learning unicorn; Octopus Deploy started in Brisbane before expanding nationally. The local market is real, just narrower.

Pay is at the national base — same range as Melbourne, below Sydney. The trade-off is cost of living: Brisbane is meaningfully cheaper than the southern capitals, so on the same OTE your Brisbane take-home stretches further. Many SDRs use Brisbane as a 2-3 year stepping-stone before relocating south for an AE seat.

Most Brisbane-based SDR roles are hybrid, with 2-3 days in the CBD or Fortitude Valley. There's also a growing pool of remote-friendly seats with Sydney/Melbourne-headquartered companies — Atlassian, Canva, SafetyCulture all hire AU-wide remote, so you don't have to relocate to break in.

On-target earnings (OTE)

Brisbane SDR pay matches the national base. Local SaaS firms (TechnologyOne, Go1) sit firmly in this range; remote roles with southern HQs sometimes bump pay up by 5-7% to match Sydney.

How to break in

Brisbane-specific tactics from a current SDR.

Lead with the local angle. Brisbane hiring managers prefer Brisbane-based reps; mention you're already in QLD and don't need to relocate. It cuts through resumes from interstate candidates instantly.

Fortitude Valley and the CBD are where SaaS clusters. If you're applying for hybrid roles, signal you're open to either — the office locations are tightly geographically grouped so commute isn't usually a blocker.

Brisbane is smaller, so the SaaS sales community is tightly networked. Show up to one or two local meet-ups (Tech in Brisbane, RevOps QLD) before applying — referrals here carry more weight than in Sydney/Melbourne.
