What makes the Melbourne SDR market different.
Melbourne is Australia's number-two SaaS hub by headcount, and the gap to Sydney is closing. Culture Amp, MYOB, Envato, Linktree and Square's Australian operations all run go-to-market here, alongside fintechs like Airwallex and the Australian arms of Block (formerly Square) and Xero.
The character of the Melbourne market is different to Sydney: more design-led SaaS, more creative-tech, more product-led companies that hire SDRs as a layer on top of an inbound funnel. The motion you'll learn here is more consultative and inbound-heavy than the cold-call-first Sydney style.
Pay is roughly on par with the national base average — slightly below Sydney, in line with Brisbane. Cost of living offsets that gap, and most Melbourne SDRs report a higher take-home quality of life than their Sydney peers on the same OTE.

How to break in
Melbourne-specific tactics from a current SDR.
Melbourne SaaS values culture-fit interviews more heavily than Sydney does. Expect at least one interview round that reads more like a values conversation than a sales test.
Cremorne, Richmond and Collingwood are the dense creative-tech belt — most SaaS HQs cluster within a 3km radius of those three suburbs. Mention you're comfortable in-office or hybrid in those locations.
If you're a career changer from a creative or hospitality background, Melbourne is genuinely friendlier than Sydney. The Melbourne SDR market hires more 'humanities + figured-it-out' profiles than 'commerce-degree-and-internships' profiles.

I’m a current top-performing SDR. I work 1:1 with career changers until they’ve signed an offer. Melbourne is one of the markets I know best.
