Sydney has the highest concentration of late-stage SaaS HQs in Australia. Atlassian, Canva, SafetyCulture, Employment Hero and Deputy all run their go-to-market teams from here, which means open SDR roles are continuously posted year-round, not in cohort-style waves like smaller markets.
Pay is the strongest in the country. Sydney SDRs sit roughly 7% above the national base average because of the cost of living and the depth of competing employers. If you can land a role in Sydney and you're willing to work hybrid, you'll typically earn more than your Melbourne or Brisbane peers in the same job.
The flip side: Sydney is the most competitive market for entry-level SDR seats. You'll be applying alongside polished candidates from the Atlassian / Canva / Microsoft / AWS pipeline. How to break in
Sydney-specific tactics from a current SDR.
If you're applying remotely from interstate, lead with that in your cover letter. Sydney managers want to know you've already accepted the move, not that you're hoping it'll work out.
Pyrmont, Barangaroo and Surry Hills are the three densest SaaS office clusters. Mention you're open to hybrid in any of those if you're applying from out of town.
